The Kansas City Chiefs of the National Football League (NFL) are beginning a new chapter in franchise development and have chosen a local business as a partner.

The Chiefs have selected Burns & McDonnell, headquartered in Kansas City, Missouri, to serve as the owner's representative for the team's upcoming$300 million headquarters and training facilityin nearby Olathe, Kansas. According to a team announcement on July 16, Burns & McDonnell will work with CAA ICON to advise the Chiefs throughout the development of the facility, which will support both the team's football operations and business operations.

The announcement states that the construction firm will provide independent oversight and leadership, guiding the process from early planning through construction and occupancy. The firm will collaborate with construction professionals to help achieve project and budget goals. The facility is expected to be operational by 2031.

"As a local, employee-owned company with a successful project track record globally, we believe they combine local knowledge and global experience to help us move forward smoothly through the upcoming design and construction phases, creating a truly unique year-round home for our team and staff," said Chiefs Chief Operating Officer and Executive Vice President Matt Kenny in the announcement.

This news comes as the team prepares to bid farewell to its iconic home, Arrowhead Stadium. In addition to the new training facility and headquarters, the team also plans to build a$3 billion stadiumin Wyandotte County, Kansas. Overall, the Chiefs will invest a total of $4.5 billion in one-time capital investments in the new training facility, the stadium, and two real estate development areas.

According to an announcement from Kansas Governor Laura Kelly, the team and the state of Kansas initiallyreached an agreement in December。

The Chiefs join other NFL teams that are upgrading or relocating their stadiums. For example, the Cleveland Browns, with AECOM Hunt and Turner Construction as builders, broke ground on a$2.4 billion stadium project on April 30。

Meanwhile, a joint venture of Turner and Gilbane Building delivered thekeys to the team's new stadium to the Buffalo Bills' owner in June。
