Meta is just one of many tech companies investing billions of dollars in AI-related data centers, creating thousands of skilled trades jobs as contractors continue to report industry-wide labor shortages. The company has announced major data center investments in the four states where the academy will first roll out.

"The AI infrastructure we are building today requires a strong workforce to bring it to life," said Rachel Peterson, Meta's Vice President of Data Centers, in a press release. "America needs hundreds of thousands of skilled tradespeople—electricians, mechanics, fiber optic technicians, and more—and this program creates clear, accessible pathways to these careers."

The Associated Builders and Contractors (ABC) has partnered with Meta to provide training through its network of educational facilities. Participants will first receive instruction in on-site safety, hand and power tools, construction math, and construction fundamentals, then move into trade-specific training, ABC President and CEO Michael Bellaman told Construction Dive.

"This transformative initiative creates incredible, ready-to-work construction careers," Bellaman said in an email. "ABC will leverage our existing and proven training centers—including instructors, classrooms, lab facilities, and tools—that have trained thousands of skilled professionals who have achieved their career dreams in construction."

After completing foundational courses, participants will enter specialized training programs in disciplines such as electrical, mechanical, and plumbing. Bellaman noted that the academy leverages ABC's existing network of approximately 800 training centers nationwide, while introducing an accelerated model tailored to data center construction demands.

The job guarantee is one of the program's most distinctive features. Graduates who complete the application process, background checks, drug screenings, and training requirements will be eligible for jobs at Meta data center projects through Meta's contractor partners.

"This is a national, unprecedented fast track to long-term careers in the skilled trades," Bellaman said.
